Making Friends!

Making friends can be tough, even for adults! Some people seem to have a harder time making friends than others do. If your preschooler is having a hard time, don't panic, there are things that you can do to help them make friends.

  • Set up a play date in your own home, where they feel most comfortable at.
  • Help them prepare for their play date. Before the guests arrive they can pick out some fun games and other things they would like to play.
  • Help them put away any really special items that they just aren't willing to share. (I think we all have things that we don't want to share.)
  • Help them to learn what it means to be a good host and make sure their friends are having fun. (smiling, laughing, etc.)
  • Listen in during the play date and help them settle any arguments in an appropriate way.
  • After the play date recall the events and talk about what being a good friend means and the ways that your child did fantastic and the things that they could work on.
